Helen Benn Morelli was born on January 12th, 1919 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Michael and Mary Olszanski Benn. She passed at the age of 103 on September 25th, 2022 in Old Saybrook, Connecticut in the home of her son Glenn Morelli and granddaughters Gina and Cali Morelli. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Morelli, her daughter Christine Shaw and her son James Matulis, as well as brother Joseph M. Benn of New Britain and sister Mary J. Serafin of Berlin. She is survived by her son Glenn Morelli. As a young adult, Helen worked for Western Union in New Britain and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church. Helen loved staying in shape with long morning walks through her neighborhoods in Delray Beach, Florida and the Indian Town community of Old Saybrook, Connecticut. Helen and her husband Frank founded the original Old Glory store on Boston Post Road in 1969. Helen loved running Old Glory, where she enjoyed selecting fashion, jewelry and accessory items for her loyal customer base. She lived to see her customers happy, and created family shopping experiences that extended through multiple generations. Her legacy continues today at all of the Old Glory locations. Helen honored her Polish roots by being a straight shooter, always looking you in the eye and telling it like it is. She so loved gatherings with family and friends at her beach house in Indian Town as well as fun nights out at the casino.
