Obituary: Robert “Scott” Hollis, May 27, 1971 – November 14, 2022 Scott, 51, of Westbrook, CT, completed his earthly journey and has been welcomed into God’s loving arms. Scott was our miracle man and our hero. He will always be loved! Robert Scott Hollis, called Scott throughout his life, was born on May 27, 1971, in Mt. Kisco, NY to loving parents, Robert and Linda Hollis, who faced the challenge of Scott’s congenital heart disease. Their love, care, and prayers helped Scott thrive as he grew up alongside his amazing big sister. Scott’s health challenges shaped his life, bringing an understanding of God’s love and a desire to share it. Scott’s faith journey began as a youth in the Presbyterian Church (USA), where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon. As a youth delegate to the General Assembly in Philadelphia, PA, he met his true love, Amy Clawson. They wed in 1992 while Scott was attending Amherst College, from which he graduated with a degree in chemistry in 1993. Not long into Scott and Amy’s 30 years of joyful life together, Scott started working at Pfizer. His 28-year career began as an analytical chemist before he transitioned to the business side. Scott spent the end of his Pfizer career as a Resource Analytics and Modeling Team Lead. Family, faith, and service were central for Scott. Over the years he sang in church choirs, taught Sunday School, assisted as a youth group leader, served as a Deacon, coordinated a Soup Kitchen Meal Site, played hand bells, volunteered to help build houses, and so much more. Scott and Amy raised their beloved daughters—Katie and Sarah—primarily in Westbrook, CT. Scott was an active partner in raising his children and loved watching them grow. He was the best parent/teacher in their childhoods—even sharing his knowledge with the kids’ friends during study parties—and it brought Scott great joy to witness them thrive as adults sharing their gifts in the world. His love for Katie and Sarah could be seen in his eyes as he talked about his dear daughters. Scott and Amy enjoyed travelling and adventuring together, seeing all 50 states, and celebrating each anniversary with a numeric achievement – including seeing 25 National Parks during the year leading up to their 25th Anniversary. Scott often expressed pride in his wife and daughters’ commitment to caring for others in their careers and personal lives. Scott found joy in many places, big and small: penguins, puffins, marimba & timpani, National Parks, art & science museums, the Mets, 42, DnD, frogs, Monty Python, at home with family, reading in the sunroom, waterfalls, Star Wars, sour candies, frisbees, musical theater, sci-fi/fantasy books, chemistry, punny jokes, songs of faith, crafting felted toys, and writing stories about two worms named Fred and Ned. His sense of fun and adventure inspired joy in family and acquaintances alike, and we will continue to feel his presence as we encounter those things that gave Scott joy. Scott is survived by his devoted wife Amy Hollis, daughters Katie Hollis (Kristen) and Sarah Hollis (Wesley), parents Bob & Linda Hollis, sister Jennifer Hovendon (John), and many other dear friends, neighbors, and family members. We ask you to join us in celebrating Scott’s life on Saturday November 26 at 2pm at the First Baptist Church in Essex, CT (10 Prospect Street). Masks required. A Zoom link is available for those unable to attend in person. Scott would welcome all to wear whatever color and style of clothes they feel comfortable in. Ensuring neighbors have access to basic needs was incredibly important to Scott. Knowing that each can of food makes a difference, in-kind donations to a local food pantry would be a fitting way to honor Scott’s memory.
