Obituary of Burton E. Chapman, Jr.
Burton E. Chapman, Jr. 83, of Laurel Drive in Old Lyme, formerly of Old Saybrook passed after a brief illness on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, CT. Burton was born in Middletown, CT on May 12, 1939. Burton was predeceased by is wife Diane J Chapman, his father Burton E. Chapman, and his mother Eunice M. (Jakobe) Chapman.
He is survived by his son Jeff Chapman of Old Saybrook, his daughter Tricia Chapman Granata and her husband Joseph of Old Lyme, and his two grandsons, Collyn Herel of Groton, and William Herel of Niantic. Burton also leaves behind a brother Frederick Chapman of Chiefland, FL, sister Frances (Chapman) Smith of North Port, FL, and sister Betty (Chapman) Mosher of Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada.
Burton was a graduate of Old Saybrook High School, Class of 1957. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he began his career in finance. Burton was a prominent figure in the town of Old Saybrook for many years. He worked in the local banks in a variety of positions ending his career as a Commercial Lending Officer before his retirement in the mid 1990’s. He was involved with the town as a member of the Board of Finance, and Chairman of the Board for a number of years. Burton enjoyed history, and had travelled the globe with his wife Diane for many years. He had been a member of the Exchange Club in Old Saybrook for years, and also a member of the Nathan Hale Branch of the Sons of The American Revolution.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook, CT. A graveside service with the rendering of Military Honors will be held immediately following at Riverside Cemetery, Sheffield St, Old Saybrook at 11am.
