Obituary of William Grendziszewski

William “Bill” Grendziszewski, of Deep River, Connecticut, passed away January 31, 2023, at home surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was born on January 5, 1946 in Bonn Cologne, Germany, to Jan and Lidia (Kabacyk) Grendziszewski. His family arrived in New York aboard the USS General S. D. Sturgis on October 1, 1949 and they lived in Naugatuck and Waterbury, CT. Following his marriage to Alicia (née Janowicz) they moved to Deep River CT and have called it home for the last 46 years. Bill worked as a journeyman printing press operator at Eastern Color Printing in Waterbury and Avon, Eastern Graphics, Old Saybrook, CT, before deciding to open his own business Wayside Package Store in Berlin, CT. Prior to his retirement he was also employed by Champion Manufacturing in Deep River. Bill was known for his handlebar moustache and he vowed he would never shave it off giving it just the occasional minute trim. Bill loved muscle cars especially his Mopar cars, attending car shows, spending time with his brother working on their cars and racing at Lebanon Valley. Bill was a lifelong NASCAR fan with his favorite driver being “The King” Richard Petty. He was also an avid Minnesota Vikings and New York Yankees fan. Bill loved to banter with anyone who would listen. Some of his favorite stories to tell were about the time his family was rescued by helicopter off the roof of the house they lived in during the flood of ’55, growing up in the 60’S, the time he spent in the US ARMY or the time he rolled over in his treasured Corvette. Bill is survived by his wife, Alicia, daughter Elizabeth Grendziszewski and son William (Noemia). Family members include his sister-in-law MaryLou Grendziszewski of Plymouth, CT, nieces Nicole (Lance) Powell, Alicia (Craig) Whiting and cousins Chet (Marie) and Tom (Linda) Grendzisiewski. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Kenneth Grendziszewski. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Middlesex Hospital and Hartford Healthcare who cared for Bill though the last ten years including the homecare nurses and the Deep River Ambulance Volunteers. We appreciate all the care and thoughtfulness that was provided. As it was his final wish burial will be private. In his memory, donations may be made to the Deep River Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 274, Deep River, CT 06417.
