Obituary of Joseph Paul Echtman

Joseph Paul Echtman of Deep River passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on the evening of Sunday March 19, 2023. Joe fought a courageous battle against dementia for 18 years while being cared for by his devoted wife. Born to William and Elsie (Jones) Echtman in Middletown on October 3, 1949, Joe grew up in Ivoryton where he was known in the area for his fast cars. During the 1970’s Joe owned and operated Ivoryton Service Station before moving on to R.R Donnelly and Sons where he worked in the bindery for 25 years. Later in life Joe worked at Whelen Engineering. Passions for Joe included his dedication to the New York Yankees, his love of rock & roll music, camping, boating and fishing where he was a member of the S-X Sportman’s Association. Joe will be remembered for his contagious smile and laugh, his kindness and love for his family and friends. Joe is survived by his wife Sharon of 46 years, their children Ashley (Sebastian) Chodulski, Sean Morrissey (Jess) and the loves of his life, Hailey, Jaxson, Axel, and Everly. A Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, Centerbrook, CT. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the dedicated staff at Chesterfields Health Care and Vitas Hospice.
