Prof. Calder was my favorite professor at Charter Oak State College, he was a terrific teacher, generous with his time, and a gentleman. The project management classes that he taught were hugely influential, and after graduating I was fortunate enough to meet for lunch with Prof. Calder in his adopted home of Chester to discuss options for graduate degrees in PM.
I've never stopped trying to implement the lessons I learned from Prof. Calder, and though it's taken nearly 10 years, I am finally seeing progress in reshaping my department's workflow. I've thought of Prof. Calder often as I've struggled to make the case for greater efficiency through project management, and though I was saddened to see the notice in the COSC newsletter that he passed away in April, I'm grateful to know that the college is trying to honor his memory permanently.
My condolences go to his loved ones. I feel very fortunate to have learned from him and to have met him.

Richard was and always will be my friend. I will miss the times in the barn when I would service his computer network and he would give me a sheepish grin when I asked him what he did to the computer. We talked about many things besides computers and our friendship grew from there. Thank you Richard for being in my life. I am a better person because of you. VinnyW

For a long while we felt part of the family. Our memory of Richard was that of a fun loving (with red socks) but dignified gentleman, a man of great talent and knowledge, a model family man, and a man dedicated to the larger human community with his Brazilian foundation. His death is a major loss not just for Chester but for the world.

Richard had the gift of being fully engaged and in the moment with me. Although I did not know him well, I felt a warm connection whenever we interacted. I loved his sailing adventures, which he enjoyed recounting.

Richard,
You have 'Gone West' before I could fulfill my promise to take you up in our B17 and get your boys involved in our Young Eagles Program. I regret that. I will miss our long lunches talking about flying and so many other things. I will miss you. Charter Oak has lost one of its most outstanding professors. You have one last time "Seen the face of God" on this earth. Rest in Peace.

Richard was ever curious. He was interested in the people around him. He drew out their stories and views with his elegant questions. He was generous too, in sharing his own experiences.
I will miss the precious fireside chats with Richard at the family home in Chester. Dinners outside under the stars. I will miss seeing him enjoy watching -relishing really- his adult children and growing grand-children continue to make their way in the world.

Richard was one of our most popular and highly regarded faculty. Graduates often commented on the quality of his courses and the value of his counsel. We will sorely miss him.

Margot,
É com grande dor que escrevemos essa mensagem. Que Deus conforte seu coração.
Soubemos do falecimento do Richard.
