Obituary of John S. Bean
John S. Bean, "The King", age 70, of Centerbrook died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on July 3, 2015. John is survived by his loving wife Karen of 30 years, his mother, Santina (Mattiello) Bean of Meriden, his twin sister, Marie Lang of Ivoryton, his sisters, Donna Lott of Old Lyme, Bernadette Niland of Portland, and Gerarda McIntyre of Meriden, his daughters, Sandie Norris of West Haven, Monica Rossi of Mystic and Jennifer Fullingim of Deep River. He also leaves several grandchildren and nieces and nephews. John was raised in Meriden until he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Berlin, Germany. Stateside he apprenticed as an electrician and as a journeyman and owned and operated Shoreline Electric Company for several years. John retired from the United States Sub Base in Groton following a 30 year career there. He was a lifelong member and served on numerous committees in the Vets Club, the American Legion and the United Scandinavian Society. As an active member he would always help out anyone in need. John helped to build and was Captain of the EOBF Raft in the Connecticut River Raft Race for many years. He was also the Captain of the Lake George Pontoon Boat. He enjoyed playing and coaching softball and was an avid Yankee fan. John was the only guy in town known for his Moose and his "John" in his front yard. He loved wood working and gardening, but the thing he loved the most in his life was spending time with his family and friends. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. John's funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, July 8th at 11:00AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial with the rendering of Full Military Honors will follow in the Centerbrook Cemetery.
