Obituary of Robert C. Deroo

Robert C. Deroo, age 77, of Chester, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday evening, March 31, 2014 at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. He was the beloved husband of Janette (Gladding) Deroo. He was born in Winchester, Massachusetts on October 14, 1936 the son of George F. and Madora (Clarke) Deroo. Bob had been a resident of Chester for the last sixteen years and had been a lumber salesman for many years. He was a devoted member of the Valley Bible Evangelical Free Church in Haddam and greatly enjoyed his men's Bible study group in Old Saybrook. Bob enjoyed camping in Rumney, New Hampshire at the Rumney Bible Conference, as well as being an avid fan of all of the Boston professional sports teams. He will be remembered as a devoted Christian, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Besides his wife Janette whom he married on March 7, 1987 in Chester he leaves his children, Robert M. Deroo, of Grafton, NH, Lori A. Deroo, of Grand Rapids, MI, and Richard C. Deroo, of Reading, MA, his step-children, Susan Marth, of Aiken, SC, Edward Leffingwell, Jr., Diane Kszywanos, Peter Leffingwell and Sandi Trabucchi, all of Chester. He also leaves 6 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren, his sister, Elizabeth "Lib" Knight, of Stoneham, MA, and many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his brother, Charles Deroo. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11:00AM at the Valley Bible Evangelical Free Church, 220 Turkey Hill Road in Haddam. Burial in the Cedar Lake Cemetery in Chester will be privately held by his family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to the Weiss Hospice Unit at Middlesex Hospital, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT 06457.
