Obituary of Dorothy A. Hensley
Dorothy A. Hensley, age 88, passed away at her residence in Deep River on Wednesday evening, September 2, 2015. She was the beloved wife of Mark S. Hensley. They were married in Hartford on April 19, 1947; he predeceased her on May 5, 2010. Dorothy was born in Hartford on March 26, 1927 the daughter of Thomas A. and Catherine (Kennedy) Devanney. She had been a resident of Deep River for the past fifty years and was a member of the Winthrop Baptist Church, and the Auxiliary of the Ibell-Jacobsen-Smith American Legion Post #61 in Deep River. Dorothy had worked at the former Sage-Allen Department Store in Old Saybrook in the jewelry department. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who was very close to her family as well as a faithful friend. She was the proud foster parent of fifty-six children. One of her favorite hobbies was knitting. She is survived by her daughter Catherine H. O'Bern and her husband Douglas of Waterford, her four grandchildren, Laura E. Husband of South Charleston Ohio, Douglas W. O'Bern Jr. and his wife April of Montville, Megan E. O'Bern-Kelley and her husband Adam of New London, and Brian Heck and his wife Pam of West Palm Beach Florida, her nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, her sisters, Catherine Olive Bonneau of Manchester, and Jane Horros of Georgia, and her brother James Devanney and his wife Lorraine of Broad Brook. She also leaves her brother in law Joseph Hensley of Phoenix Arizona. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her two brothers, Bud and Robert Devanney and her sister Mary London and Scott Husband, the husband of her granddaughter Laura. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Dorothy's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 11:00AM at the Winthrop Baptist Church, 444 Winthrop Road in Deep River. Interment services will be held at 2:00PM in the Connecticut State Veteran's Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane in Middletown.
