Obituary of Julia M. Vitali
Julia M. Vitali, 95, of Old Saybrook, formerly a long time resident of Bridgeport died on Monday, September 14, 2015 at Apple Rehabilitation in Old Saybrook after a long illness. Julia was born in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Oreste & Assunta (Mallegni) Vitali, where she resided until 8 years ago, when she moved to Old Saybrook to be closer to her family. Julia graduated in 1940 from St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Bridgeport and worked there as a OBGYN nurse for nearly 30 years. After which she managed an OBGYN office in Bridgeport for another 25 years before retiring at age 70. Julia was very devout, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, altar guild and a lector at St Raphael/St Margaret Shrine in Bridgeport for many years. After her retirement Julia attended Mass everyday often leading the Rosary after and leading the Rosary when she entered the nursing home. Julia was a world traveler, traveling the world visiting many shrines. She also volunteered at CT Hospice in Branford, she will also be remembered as a doting and devoted Aunt and Great Aunt. Julia is survived by her niece Susanne and her husband John "Jack" Redway of Old Saybrook, Great nieces and a nephew and Great Great nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Julia was predeceased by her sister Clara Streib and her nephew Harlan Streib. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Sept.18th at 11 o'clock from St. John Church, 161 Main St. Old Saybrook. Interment to follow at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford.
