Bill was such a kind, thoughtful man. I got to know him because he had my mom, Amy, as a client. He would always take time to talk to me and there was never a superficial conversation with Bill. It always got deep fast. He would make me laugh too and it gave me comfort knowing he was looking out for my mom. I am so sorry that he is gone. Sending peace and love to his family and friends and much joy in his memory.

My wife, Susan, and I are deeply saddened by Bill's untimely passing. Bill originally took care of our landscaping years ago. Since that time we would often see and greet Bill at the Black Seal in Essex. Bill always had a smile and a warm hello. He had adopted many new appearances over the years and he often surprised us with a totally different look and great stories on what he was currently excited about his life. Bill was a wonderful man and we are all richer for getting an opportunity to know him. Be at rest, Bill.

WOW!!! Seems like only a few years ago that I meet you, your Mom, & Dad at the Brown Derby. You"d come in at 10 or 11 PM to make the donuts. I would park my brown UPS truck and come in for coffee and a "cake cinnamon roll". They were the best that I have ever had. That was in the early '80's. You took up bow hunting for deer. You always told me that you got 1 or 2. (then you told me the truth) how many? You had your Dad's Heart, too big for your chest. RIP Bill I wish I knew you better.

I had spent many days and nights with Bill over the years, enjoying our youth and service to our country and community. We often went to O'Rouke's Diner in Middletown. Many a night I would stop in and see him while he kept the family secrets as he was making the donuts. He was a free spirit.

To Bill's Loved One's,
True story. Twenty or so years ago I became violently ill while driving on Rt 9 on my way home from work in Hartford. It was pitch black and super cold outside. Bill saw me outside my car up near exit 9, stopped to see if I needed help and drove me home. He then made sure I got in okay. Surprisingly we discovered that we were both from OS and our families had overlapped for years. From that point on, I referred to him as "My Saint Bill." RIP Kind One.

My sincere sympathy to Chris, Matt and all on the sudden loss of someone so special. I knew Bill mainly through my brother, Hoppy Gifford. They hunted and fished together for years and had the chance to reunite three years ago at my father's 90th birthday. Hoppy has learned of his passing. We almost lost Hoppy in July - and he is still not strong enough to travel back for Monday. I just want to pass on : RIP Two Hatchets.
