Obituary of Laquita Jewell

Laquita Jewell, age 85, of Deep River, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, October 29, 2015. Laquita was born in Smyrna Mills, Maine to Arthur and Elva (Norris) Ireland. Although she lived in Connecticut most of her life, she considered her true home to be Maine. She worked very hard to raise her children on her own and provide for her family. She worked for many years at L.C. Doane in Centerbrook, and at Uarco in Deep River until her retirement. After retirement she enjoyed traveling to Ireland and made several trips to Hawaii. Laquita loved gardening, enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens at her home, loved going to the beach and having family around. Laquita is survived by her children, Elva Carlson and her husband Al of Chester, Cindy Reiman and her husband Bill of East Haddam and her son Mark Jewell of Chicago; her grandchildren, Victor Carlson and girlfriend Jen Metzler of Vernon, Darrell Carlson and girlfriend Tonya Goodrich of Chester, Richard Carlson of Chester, Josh Moeller of Green Acres, Florida, Tyler Moeller and fiancée Selena Epstein of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Michael Reiman of Cromwell; her brothers, Arthur (Sonny) Ireland and his wife Winnie of Houlton, Maine and Joseph Ireland and his wife Rhea of Stuart, Florida, five great-grandchildren, several special nieces and nephews, and her most special kitty and best friend Diamond. She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Buxton and Wanda (Peters) Nickerson both of Maine. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and volunteers at the Middlesex Hospital Hospice Unit for taking great care of Laquita and their compassion for her and her family during her short stay with them. Laquita is now in the care of Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, Centerbrook, Connecticut. There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service and burial will take place in Maine at a later date.
