Obituary of Evelyn Schneider

Evelyn Schneider, age 94, of Haddam, passed away on November 20. Born in New York to Frank and Jeanette (Basta) Adams, she lived in Chester from 1947 until early January 2015. She is predeceased by two wonderful husbands, John Nile Schneider and Gilbert (Gib) LaPlace Mather. She is survived by her two children, J. Nile Schneider (Linda) of South Burlington, VT and Lynne Lois Schneider (Richard Fusch) of Powell, Ohio, her brother Frank Adams (Peggy) of Groton, step-daughter Jayne Mather of Deep River, step-son Richard Mather, (Pat) of Essex and a niece, nephews and step-grandchildren. Evelyn was the Town of Chester Assessor for 20 years and Republican Registrar of Voters in Chester for 21 years. As town assessor, she developed and instituted the street numbering system for the town. After retirement, she was passionate about painting, specializing in watercolors, primarily of lighthouses.
