Obituary of Judith A. Nelson

Judith Ann Nelson, 78, of Centerbrook passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Nov. 24th. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 28, 1937, the daughter of Vern and Lucille Vivian (Keller) Boxell. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years Ted Nelson, her daughters Stacey Nelson of Providence, RI; Gwen Ross and her husband Brian Ross of Ivoryton, CT; Alyssa Atkinson and her husband Shawn Atkinson of Ivoryton,CT; and her grandchildren Patrick Atkinson, Paige Atkinson, and Austin Ross whom filled her heart with love beyond measure. Judie and Ted moved to Centerbrook in 1961, where they built their home, raised three daughters, loved three grandchildren, and shared life's ups and downs with family and friends for over 50 years. Judie took great pride and joy in her home and her family, and found reasons every day to celebrate the small things in life. Judie was an eternal optimist whose positive energy gave great hope and strength to all those around her even in the midst of her own physical struggles, and right up until the very end of her life. Her loving, selfless heart and bright spirit were truly inspirational and will be remembered by all that knew her. The family would like to sincerely thank all of the people with Middlesex Hospital/Hospice, and the Lower Valley Visiting Nurses for their loving care of Judie. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 30th from 5:00-7:00pm at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A service to celebrate Judie's life will take place at The First Congregational Church of Deep River, 1 Church Street in Deep River on Tuesday, December 1st at 11:00AM.
