Obituary of Edna May Appleby

Edna May Appleby, age 83, a resident of Middletown since May of this year and a former longtime resident of Centerbrook and native of Essex passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. Edna was born in Essex on April 20, 1932 the daughter of Nathaniel J. and Clara (Goff) Appleby. Edna was raised in Essex and attended the former Pratt High School. She began her working career as a nanny and then became a Certified Nursing Assistant caring for residents at the former Essex Rest Home. Edna will be remembered as an avid UCONN Women's Basketball fan. She also enjoyed reading and knitting. Edna is survived by her seven siblings, sisters, Emily Galanto, and Rose Marino, both of Middletown, Beatrice Appell, of Westbrook, Janet Evans, of Washington State, Barbara Tower, of Florida, brothers, Nathaniel Appleby, Jr., of East Haven, and Charles Appleby, of Westbrook. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Edna was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy Becker, Margaret Bumstead, Grace Bloom, and Sarah Schull, and her brothers, George and Joseph Appleby. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Monday, December 21, 2015 from 9:00AM to 10:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM at Saint Mark the Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Road in Westbrook. Burial will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Edna's name to Saint Mark the Evangelist Church, 222 McVeagh Road, Westbrook, CT 06498-1512.
