Obituary of Carol Purcell Guglietti
Carol Purcell Guglietti, 53, of Cromwell, formerly Florida and a native of Old Saybrook passed away at Hartford Hospital December 15, 2015. She was the daughter of Jane H. Purcell of Haddam, formerly of Old Saybrook, and the late Robert F. Purcell Sr. She is also survived by brother Robert F. Purcell Jr. and his wife, RoseMarie of Mount Joy, PA. and her sister, Catherine Purcell of Westbrook, CT. She leaves her aunts, Edith Francis of Sun City Center, FL and Gladys Hanford of Old Saybrook. She is also survived by her cousins in Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Texas and Georgia. A graduate of Old Saybrook High School, Hocking Technical College, Nelsonville, OH she received a degree in Applied Sciences (Emergency Medical Management). Carol received her RN from Rochester Community College, Rochester, MN. She was fortunate to experience a vast array of medical challenges doing her practical work at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN). She also attended Ohio University, Athens, OH for Community Health and Sports Medicine. Moving to Florida after college Carol began her nursing career at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL) in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. She worked as a trauma and emergency room nurse in a number of hospitals in Florida. Her dream job was to be a flight nurse. She became a flight nurse/E.M.T –paramedic on Bayflite helicopter at Bayfront Hospital (St. Petersburg, FL). Carol's career choice as a paramedic and RN gave her a vast array of experiences, such as rappelling and cliff rescue, white and fast water rescue, working in a trauma center and flying in the "BK", (as they called the helicopters). Carol loved to create beautiful things, decorate and travel. Visitation will be held Friday, January 15, 2016 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, in Centerbrook. A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10:00AM, in the Riverside Cemetery, Sheffield Street, in Old Saybrook.
