Obituary of Nancy Lee Lombardi

Nancy Lee (McCauley) Lombardi from Ivoryton, CT, passed away in comfort Sunday, February 7, 2016, surrounded by those she loved. She was born on May 16, 1936 in Deep River, CT. Along with her four siblings, Mary Jane, Joseph, James and Robert and her parents, Marie and James McCauley, Sr., Nancy grew up surrounded by the beauty of the Connecticut shoreline. Nancy lived in Old Saybrook until she married Robert Lombardi, Sr. in Old Saybrook on September 8, 1956. They moved to Ivoryton to begin their life together. There they raised their children, Robert Jr. and Debra Lynn. Nancy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert Lombardi Sr., her son Robert Lombardi, Jr, (and wife Dyan); daughter Debra Whalen (and husband Michael); grandson Ryan Paul Lombardi (and partner Jennifer); great-grand-daughter Nattalie Lombardi; her sister, Mary Jane (and husband James Kelvey); brothers James and Robert; brother-in-law Charles Sakmar, along with many nieces and nephews. Nancy is pre-deceased by her parents, Marie and James McCauley, Sr., brother Joseph; in-laws Blanche and Paul Lombardi; sisters-in-law Pauline Sakmar and Mary Korineck; brother-in-law John Korineck; and nieces, Brenda Sakmar and Maryann Korineck. Nancy's family was the most important thing to her and she loved nothing more than bringing them all together for many good times. The family and their friends spent more than 25 years at Misquamicut Beach in Westerly, Rhode Island for summer vacations. She worked for Cheseborough Ponds/Unilver for 38 years and upon her retirement in1998 enjoyed traveling with her husband Bob, both abroad and throughout much of the United States. Nancy was an avid gardener and active member in the Ivoryton Village Gardeners club for more than a decade, taking great pride in helping to beautify her hometown while also tending her lovely flower and vegetable gardens at home. She also volunteered as an usher at the Ivoryton Playhouse enjoying the plays she saw and the people she met. In younger years, along with Bob, Nancy was active in the Essex Volunteer Fire Department and Women's Auxiliary. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Susanna Hong and her team at the Connecticut Oncology Group, and also to Dr. William Zeidler and the entire staff at the Weiss Hospice and Palliative Care Unit at Middlesex Memorial Hospital who made Nancy's last days a comfort to her and her family. We will truly miss Nancy but are blessed in having her part of our lives. Her memory survives in all of us. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 9:00AM until the time of her funeral service at 12:00PM.
