Obituary of Jose Maria Asensio

Jose Maria "Pete" Asensio, 75, of Westbrook, CT, died May 3, 2014. He was born in Pittsburgh on May 9, 1938 to the late Wilhelmina and José Maria Asensio. He was a graduate of Briarcliff Manor (N.Y.) High School, Dartmouth College, and Teacher's College, Columbia University. Pete had a tremendous love of family, a passion for sailing, and was a voracious reader with an insatiable curiosity. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jean, children, Matthew Asensio and his wife Melinda and beloved granddaughter Sadie Abigail of West Hartford, CT, and Suzanne Asensio and her fiancé Chris Janik of Waterbury, CT. Pete is also survived by a sister Alexandra Koppen and her husband Peter, of Ridgefield, CT, aunt Dolores Bridges of New York, NY, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and dear friends. A service in celebration of his life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Westbrook, CT on Saturday, May 10th, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pete's name may be made to the Westbrook Public Library, 61 Goodspeed Drive, Westbrook, CT 06498.
