Obituary of Louis F. Heft

Louis F. Heft, 85, husband of MarieAnne (Parodi) Heft for 55 years, passed away on March 11, 2016 peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Killingworth to John A. Heft and Edith Sypher Heft, he was a Marine serving in the Korean War. Louis owned and operated The General Store in the heart of Chester while working for Brunalli Construction, he then retired in 1992. Louie's volunteer services included Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and the 4H club. He also was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Chester Land Trust, and Chester Historical Society. Louie will be remembered for his strong, active role in the community. His white pick up truck was often parked slightly askew downtown. He was known for keeping an eye on construction workers, watching any road work being done and offering all the help he could. Most days Louie could be seen directing traffic, offering his seasoned advice to workers around town, or reading the paper with a coffee in hand. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother he leaves behind his wife MarieAnne, his children Bonni Waterman, Donna Cates, Louann Heft, Martin Heft and Paulette Heft. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Dalena Charette, Tanya Charette – Corrigan, Joshua and Timothy Cates as well as Allyson, Amanda, and Amber Preble, great granddaughter Farrah Brown and sister Doris H. Kurze. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, George and John Heft, and sisters Helen H. Wettish and Evelyn H. Messier.
