Obituary of Berkely Houston Grey
Berkely Houston Grey Jr. of Haddam, CT died peacefully and comfortably on Wednesday April 30. He was 86 years old. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and the dedicated staff at Aaron Manor. He was born to the late Berkely and Mary Grey, on May 1, 1927, in Mt. Kisco, NY. He graduated from Purdy's High School in 1945. He was a United States Marine Corp veteran in World War II. He married Joyce Natalie Patterson on April 6, 1947, and they lived together in North Salem, New York before relocating to Englewood, Florida in 1989. He and Joyce ultimately resettled in Old Saybrook and Haddam, CT in 2010. Berkely presided over the family store, Grey's Quality Market in Purdy's New York, before embarking on a successful career as Sales Manager at Brewster Ford and Brady Stannard, in Brewster, NY. He won numerous awards highlighting his sales accomplishments and dedication to his hard work. He enjoyed boating, fishing, long drives, fixing things around the house, and spending time with his family. Berkely was a loving husband, father and grandfather. While his disposition was that of a quiet, caring man, he had a keen business sense coupled with a lively wit and sense of irony. He was an exceptional role model and a dedicated, hardworking family man. Berkely is survived by his loving wife Joyce and two children: Suzanne Grey of Old Saybrook, CT; Randy Grey and wife Lori of San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by two grandchildren Elliot and Haley; his sister Olive Kelly of Yardley, PA and nieces Pam and Ginny.The memorial service is private with the family suggesting that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Berkely's name to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
