Obituary of Alfred J. Spencer

Alfred J. Spencer, Jr., age 87, of Ivoryton passed away on Friday evening, May 20, 2016 at Chesterfields Health Care Center in Chester. He was the beloved husband of Jeanette "Jean" (Buckridge) Spencer who predeceased him on March 5, 2015. Alfred was born in Essex on December 31, 1928 the son of Alfred J. and Emma (Looby) Spencer. He was raised in Centerbrook and had been a resident of Ivoryton since 1950. Alfred proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Following his time of service he attended electrical trade school and was employed by the Monsanto Company in Deep River for over 25 years working in the electrical department. He was a member of the Essex Fire Engine Co. #1 for over 25 years, and also was a Boy Scout Leader of Essex Troop 12. Alfred loved to camp and was an avid ice fisherman who especially loved being on Lords Pond. He leaves his daughter, Laura J. Lewis and her husband Ken of Ivoryton, his son, Thomas J. Spencer and his wife Susie of Orem, Utah, his six grandchildren, and his sister, Irma Johnston, and her husband Henry of Cromwell. Besides his wife Jean and his parents he was predeceased by his infant daughter Gloria Ann Spencer, his brother, Lawrence Spencer and his sisters, Bennis Richards and Rae Hoadley. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Saturday, May 28, 2016 from 5:00PM to 6:30PM. Alfred's funeral service will be conducted at 6:30PM in the funeral home chapel followed by the rendering of Full Military Honors. Burial will be privately held by the family.
