Obituary of ELizabeth Kyle Brown

Elizabeth Kyle (Galbraith) Brown passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 12, 2016 with her daughters at her side. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories of a life well lived. She also leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly; daughters Noelle Flamand of Guilford, Connecticut; Hazel Kerr of Iowa City, Iowa; Carol Kerr of Niantic, Connecticut and Heather Kerr McNeil of Old Saybrook, Connecticut; sons-in law Ed Flamand, and Dominic Mininni; grandchildren, Erica (Flamand) Shugg and husband Bryan Shugg of Statesville, North Carolina; Holly Kleiber and husband Will Kleiber of Superior, Colorado; Bryce Flamand of Seattle, Washington; Hannah McNeil, Nora McNeil and Peter McNeil of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, as well as their father Peter McNeil; and her great grandson, Rowan Kleiber. Born in Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland in 1927 into a family of girls , with Margaret, Mary, and twins Catherine and Joan. She was raised with her sisters in the home of a modest banker, her father, Charles Edward Galbraith and her mother, Catherine McQuitty Kyle Galbraith. Her young years were spent with schooling and holidays either on her uncle's farm, or at the sea shore; her love of which carried through her life. She was a teenager when she endured the German bombing and food rationing of World War II. She moved to Dublin for College, studying to become a teacher, and there met and married Noel Kerr, a medical student at Trinity College. As Noel continued his studies, the couple began their family; Elizabeth giving birth to daughters Noelle, and Hazel in Dublin, followed by Carol, in Alberta, Canada, and Heather, born in Manchester, Connecticut. Elizabeth returned to college in later years, and gained her Masters' Degree in Education at Eastern Connecticut State University. She worked as an Elementary school teacher at Vernon Elementary and Skinner Road Schools, bringing a wee bit of Ireland into the classroom every year. She found love again when she married Irv Brown of Vernon. She lived in Vernon until her retirement. After retirement, Elizabeth moved to Westbrook, to be closer to her family and the ocean she so loved. Her great pride could be found in her grandchildren. She attended countless games, dance recitals and graduations, loving every minute of it. She joined the family of Westbrook Congregational Church, spending many hours knitting prayer shawls for her churches' Youth Mission Trips to be taken by the students to residents in the areas they visited. Elizabeth was passionate about gardening; she always loved to bake, and often made favorite treats for her grandchildren, especially Magic Bars and Irish Shortbread, and passed on her talents for knitting, baking, gardening and sewing to her daughters.
