Obituary of Hilda Field
Hilda Field, née Codd, of Essex passed peacefully on the morning of July 7, 2016, at the age of 95. Hilda was born on October 7, 1920 in Cardiff, Wales. She was the youngest of nine children born to Alfred Codd and Ella Hine. She is predeceased by her parents and her siblings Ella, Thomas, Frank, Arthur, George, Alfred, Gwen, and Stanley, as well as her husband Robert Lewis Field. She is survived by her son Roger Alan Field and his wife Cynthia, her daughter Glenis Field Colburn and her husband David, her grandchildren Sarah Herrick, Elisabeth Field, Shawn Colburn, and Megan Press, and her great-grandchildren Qualia, Isabella, Peyton, and Parker. Hilda was truly a lady in every sense. She survived the Blitz to fall in love with her American merchant mariner, and was brave enough to cross the ocean and make a new life with him here in the States. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Essex, Connecticut, for over 60 years. She was well known for her wit, charm, love of good friends, English tea, and a good joke. It was not uncommon to open a card from her and find inscribed inside a witty poem she had penned, and she was the friend and neighbor everyone depended on to help out when they needed it. In her later years, those friendships remained strong and she greatly enjoyed living in the community she had been a part of for so long. Hilda was hugely loved and will be hugely missed. Graveside services were held on Friday, July 8th at the Riverview Cemetery in Essex. To share a memory of Hilda or send a condolence to her family, please visit www.rwwfh.com.
