Obituary of Gerald C. Stevenson

Gerald C. Stevenson, 73 of Old Saybrook passed away on Tuesday July 5, 2016. Jerry was born on December 27, 1942: the son of the late Clarence and Agnes (Zuppe) Stevenson. Jerry grew up in Ivoryton and is predeceased by his first wife, Marsha (McConville) Stevenson and survived by his wife Judith Stevenson. Jerry is also survived by his children and their families: daughter Carlene Lange and her husband Ken, son Christian Stevenson and his wife Kriste, and daughter Jenine Stevenson. Jerry was also the proud "Papa" to his grandchildren Keely Yarish, Ethan Yarish, Jack Lange, Kate Lange, Zoey Stevenson and Bo Zanardi. Jerry is also survived by his siblings, Linda Stevenson Cromer and Richard Stevenson. Jerry was a graduate of Valley Regional High School, class of 1960. Following high school Jerry worked at Stanley Tool, Royal Typewriters and found his true calling as a long time owner of multiple child care centers throughout Connecticut. As a parent, Jerry could often be found volunteering his time and demonstrating his commitment to his community. You would find him in the school kitchens cooking up batches of his "secret recipe" spaghetti sauce for the PTO dinners, coaching his daughter's many softball teams, or keeping the clock during his son's hockey games. Later in life he transferred that support to his grandchildren and was always at their sporting events, promotions and concerts. No matter where he was, or what the occasion- Jerry was happiest surrounded by friends and family. With a ready smile and a wicked wit, he was always the life of the party. To honor that spirit and to share the tales that can FINALLY be told, we will be hosting a Celebration of Life. Please Join us as we toast and share a smile of memories, Saturday July 16th anytime from 12-4pm at the Westbrook Elks Club, 142 Seaside Ave. in Westbrook.
