Obituary of Clara Coley Roos

Clara Coley Roos, wife of the late Harold "Bump" Roos, died September first at Gladeview Health Care in Old Saybrook, CT. Born in 1919 in Weston, she was the eldest daughter of David Sherwood Coley and Anna (Jayne) Coley, the second of their six children. Clara was raised in Weston, primarily at the Coley homestead on River Road, until her marriage to Bump in 1939 when they moved to East Norwalk. She returned to Weston while Bump served in the Army during World War II. After Bump's discharge, they returned to East Norwalk, eventually settling on Osborne Avenue. They spent the rest of their life together there, raising three children and spending much time fishing and lobstering amongst the Norwalk islands. Clara could also be found behind the cash register at Fay's Market, and later at the Market Basket on Cove Avenue. After Bump's passing, Clara became one of the first residents of The Marvin on Gregory Boulevard, where she lived for almost 15 years until moving to Gladeview in 2012 to be near her grandchildren, Jennifer Nagot Juke & Kevin Nagot. Clara always referred to herself as a 'Connecticut Yankee', who was 'born and raised on a dairy farm, the oldest of five girls'. She loved Hawaiian pizza, the Sound, the NY Yankees, and most of all Bump. She always retained her feisty spirit, especially during the past few years during her battle with dementia. Besides Bump, who predeceased her in 1992, Clara lost her daughter, Barbara Nagot, in 1997 and her granddaughter, Lisa Marie Nagot, in 1963. She was also predeceased by her siblings: David Coley, Anna Anderson, Frances Kimball, Lillian (Billie) Harrington, and Dorothy (Dottie) Burnett. Clara is survived by her sons, Donald Roos and Dale Roos, her son-in-law, Richard Nagot, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, of Centerbrook CT, is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be private.
