Obituary of Glenn A. Bassett
Dr. Glenn Arthur Bassett of Lyme, Connecticut, died peacefully in his home on Rogers Lake on October 26, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. An author, military veteran, Business School Dean, former General Electric executive, and devoted husband, Dr. Bassett is survived by his wife, Olivette, his children Glenna Bassett Musante, Glenn Bassett Jr., John Severino and Olivette Severino, grandchildren Michelle Musante, Jordan Bassett, and Zachary and Reese Severino, and daughters-in-law, Therese Bassett and Diane Severino. A veteran of the Korean War, Dr. Bassett is best known professionally as a pioneer in the field of industrial psychology and created the policies that became standard operating procedure at the General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) for recruitment , performance evaluation, promotions, and managerial training and selection. He also authored nine books on leadership and effective management practices, including The Manager's Craft, an Amazon e-book, published in 2012. Dr. Bassett was also the former Dean of the School of Business at The University of Bridgeport. During his tenure at The University of Bridgeport, he led the university in winning international accreditation and was inducted into the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs Region I Hall of Fame for his leadership in the Council. He returned to teaching in 2005 as Professor Emeritus and continued to write until shortly before his death. He was also a proud Rotarian, and sang for many years in the choir of First Church of Christ in Saybrook, Congregational, where his wife was church organist. Services for Dr. Bassett will be held at the First Church of Christ in Saybrook, Congregational, 366 Main Street in Old Saybrook, Connecticut on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016 at 11:00AM. Memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Bassett's name in lieu of flowers to the Lolly Bassett Scholarship Fund at the church or to The American Cancer Society, Southern New England Region, 38 Richard Avenue, Norwalk, CT. 06854.
