I just learned of Ed's passing yesterday, May 25th, 2017, from Alan Richardson who was a co-worker and good friend of ours from Posi-seal. I was Ed's right hand man in the drafting department for many years. Ed was a great man & supervisor. He indeed was as our manager, John Corey, described our new boss to be as "as good guy with many years of experience, and walks softly but carries a big stick". We shared many laughs and tears together though the good and tough times. My dad, Ed Simmons, really liked Ed and enjoyed years of playing golf together in the Posi-Seal golf league. They often enjoyed a couple of beers with liver & onions after a fun game at the club house. My dear wife Kim, also loved Ed and Lorraine. We were very honored and happy to have organized and executed a wonderful retirement party at the Tamarak Lodge in our hometown of Voluntown, Ct. There we met many members of his warm and loving family. Our sincere condolences to the family & all those who knew & loved Ed as much as we do. He was indeed a great man & is missed by us all.

Sincerely, Ken & Kim Simmons

To the family of Ed Varney - we are so sorry for your loss. He was an amazing, intellectual person and we always enjoyed seeing him at the car shows.

Lorraine and Family,
Our hearts are broken for you and your family at the passing of this wonderful man. We have always looked forward to the opportunity to visit with you and Ed at family gatherings in Connecticut.
Among our fondest memories is when you and Ed hosted Pauline and I at your home in Palmetto so we could attend Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa. Every morning, Ed would present us with fresh oranges harvested from his citrus tree in the back yard. Your hospitality was so comforting, that our experience there still remains one of our most treasured memories; and is frequently reminisced.
It satisfies us that this most deserving man now rests peacefully in the hands of the Lord. However, Ed's image will remain in our hearts and minds forever. This beautiful man will not be forgotten.
Our most sincere condolences!

" Kindness is a language everybody understands-even the blind can see it and the deaf can hear it." Mother Teresa
That was Uncle Eddy to all of us. He was one of the kindest men I have ever known. He always took time to be with the little kids and made them each feel so special. He made all of us big kids feel special too. Although it does not list 'Teacher' as one of his occupations, to me, he was one of the greatest teachers I've known. We will always think of him wearing his Red Sox hat and his kind smile.
John and I are thinking of all of you and praying that God will comfort your hearts in a special way now and in the days to come.

What a surprise to see Ed's picture in The Courant this morning. That photo looks just like to one of him in our PHS Yearbook - 1950. "Zeke" as we all called him was a popular member of our class and I have not seen him since our last reunion many years ago. There were only 28 of us in that class and we knew each other pretty well. Those were wonderful years in a much simpler time. It sounds like he lived a wonderful life and remained the very sweet guy I remember.

My favorite photos of Uncle Ed are those where he is driving the tractor with one of the many children in his life sitting on his lap and steering. You could never tell who was having more fun, the child or Ed. It seemed that neither could be happier at that moment. We were so fortunate to have Ed in our lives. I will miss him.

I cannot help but think that Ed Varney was an angel on earth, put here to bring a smile to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. They don't make them like that anymore. :) I will never forget where I learned to play pool - at Aunt Lorraine and Uncle Eddie's house with Dubi and Uncle Eddie. Uncle Eddie taught me all the tricks to beat Dubi and when I challenged him to a game, he'd let me win. I was a rebellious teenager with a bad attitude, but you couldn't be around Uncle Eddie without him warming your heart and with his gentle sweet nature, bringing happiness to your soul. He showed me his model cars and he told me all about them. He even took me for a ride around town. Years later, he showed my son Auston those cars. He also showed him how to play pool too and took him for a ride on his tractor. Auston loved him, just as I did. I am humbled to have met him and honored to have had the opportunity to give him a big hug and tell him just how much I love him just recently at GG and Dubi's 70 Annniversary. To his family - how lucky and blessed you were to have an angel for so many years. I know you will miss him greatly, as we all will. You are all in my prayers. Love you.

Eddie, one of the kindest, most gentle and honest people I've had the pleasure to have known and spend precious time with (he and his family). It only seems right that Ed will now have the opportunity to "comfortably" smile down upon his family, as he continues to watch over, enjoy & protect his very much loved family & grandchildren. May you rest in peace, dear Eddie
