Dorothy was born on March 23, 1924 in Richmond Hill, NY and grew up in Sea Cliff, NY. She was the eldest of three daughters born to Alfred Hyett and Ellen Reardon. Dorothy grew up by the seaside, and thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, especially boating, swimming, and camping with her family. She continued to enjoy trips to the seaside for the remainder of her life. She was also an avid fan of the Uconn Huskies women's basketball team. She and her future husband, Lewis J. Butler, both attended Sea Cliff High School where they graduated in 1942. Dorothy went on to nursing school on Long Island while her future husband went off to war. Dorothy worked as a Registered Nurse for several years, in pediatrics and with polio patients. After war's end, Dorothy and Lewis married in Sea Cliff in 1949 and went on to have six children. Dorothy left her nursing career and concentrated her loving care on her growing family and her parents. The family moved to Oyster Bay, NY where they spent 23 happy years together. Both Dorothy and Lewis were strong in faith and they were devoted parishioners at St. Dominic's Church in Oyster Bay. In 1989, they retired and moved to Pawcatuck to be closer to their beloved grandchildren. They also became deeply involved with St. Pius parish in Westerly, RI. Predeceased by her husband, Dorothy is survived by her six children: Paul (and Maureen) of Ivoryton, CT; Patricia and Mary (and Brian) of Stuart, FL; Thomas and Allen of Pawcatuck; and Peter of Oyster Bay.
