Obituary of Joyce Annette Aley
Joyce Annette (Gaskin) Aley, wife of the late Michael J. Aley awoke to glory and peace on Monday, December 12, 2016. She was born in New Haven, to John and Mary (DeLuca) Gaskin. She moved to East Haven in 1950. Joyce graduated Sacred Heart Academy, Hamden, in 1958 and married October 5, 1963, Joyce was very active in the Town of Chester for many years. Starting in the 1970's she was involved with the Chester Parks & Recreation, Chester Republican Town Committee and with F.I.S.H. She held various jobs in the area, but most notably was the Tax Collector for the town from 1988 to 2009. After she retired she served on the Board of Finance for several years. Joyce was also a member of the Westbrook Drum Corps in the 1980's and joined her hometown Corps, the Chester Fife and Drum and marched with them until 2000. She learned how to bass drum in her late forties. Until her death, Joyce was a parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Essex. Joyce had a great love and pride in her family. Her beloved husband pre-deceased her in October 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Victoria "Vicki" Aley Miorelli of Glastonbury, and her husband Robert Miorelli, her son, William Aley of Perkinsville, VT and his wife Gorgeta Aley. She also leaves behind her granddaughters, Nancy Miorelli currently living in Quito, Ecuador, Brittany and Deanna Aley of Perkinsville, VT, Sister-in-Law, Grace Ann Churchill of Waukegan, IL., niece and nephews', Cathy Keffer, Robert Churchill, Russell Churchill and David Churchill. Also deeply sadden by Joyce's passing are three of her lifelong friends, Marie Grindell Boswell of New Jersey, Angela Russo, New Haven, and Mary Ellen Gill, Vineland, NJ. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 9:30AM to 10:30AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 14 Prospect Street in Essex. Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Main Street in Chester. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made in Joyce's name to Middlesex Hospital Hospice Care, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT 06457 or to Sacred Heart Academy, 265 Benham Street, Hamden, CT 06514.
