Obituary of Mary Mucha
Mary Mucha, age 95, of Deep River, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. Mary was the beloved wife of Philip J. Mucha who predeceased her on April 5, 2008. She was born in Rockfall, Connecticut on February 24, 1921, the daughter of Louis and Katie (Hajec) Kokoszka. Following her graduation from high school, Mary participated in a Middletown Recreational Basketball League and worked to support the World War II effort manufacturing machine gun belts and was also a loom operator and supervisor. In 1959, Mary and Philip were married in Middletown and resided in Deep River. Phil built their new home and they moved into it after the birth of their son. Mary supported Philip throughout the years as his office manager in the operation of his home building business. She was a communicant at Saint Joseph's Church in Chester. With her great love of basketball and baseball, she was indeed an avid follower of the UConn Lady Huskies and the Boston Red Sox. She will be remembered for her devotion and care of her vegetable garden and blueberry bushes.
She loved to bake, her pies and cookies were everyone's favorites. The family would like to thank Mary's caregiver, Mercy Boateng, for her love and support of Mary over the past year. Mary is survived by her son, Robert P. Mucha and his wife, Katherine of Marlborough, her granddaughters, Melissa Mucha, of Arlington, Virginia, and Lauren Mucha, of White Salmon, Washington. She was the third child of twelve children, and a twin. She leaves her sisters, Camille Gagliardi of Florida, Rita Adams of Texas and her brother, Stanley Kokoszka of Massachusetts. Mary was predeceased by eight siblings. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 10:30AM at Saint Joseph's Church, 48 Middlesex Avenue in Chester. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary's name to the Estuary Council of Seniors, Inc. 220 Main Street, Old Saybrook, CT 06475, or kindly contribute to any elderly care agency.
