Obituary of Charles Greeney

Charles F. Greeney, 92, of Chester died peacefully on January 16, 2017 after a brief illness. Beloved husband of the late Lena (Zaraschi) Greeney, he was predeceased by his son Paul. He grew up in Deep River and moved to Chester in the 1940's after he served his country during World War II to raise his family. Charles was a postman for many years in town and was a member and lifetime engineer for the Chester Hose Company. He was loved by many and was affectionately known by others in the community as "POPS". An avid card player, he enjoyed winning against us at cribbage and Pinocle. A true family man, he loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Charles leaves behind his children; Merry Berdensey and her late husband Arthur, Susan Blackwell and her husband Mark, Charlene Sprayberry and her husband Robert, Linda Johnson, and Charles Greeney, Jr. and his wife Cheryl, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly. We would like to thank the staff of Chesterfields for their kindness and compassion. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook, on Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. A funeral service will be held at the United Church of Chester, 29 West Main Street in Chester on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 10:00AM. Burial will follow with the rendering of Full Military Honors in the Fountain Hill Cemetery, 57 High Street in Deep River. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Charles name to The Chester Hose Company, P.O. Box 214, Chester, CT 06412.
