Obituary of Kathleen G. Brookson
Kathleen (Griffin) Brookson of Old Saybrook, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on January 19, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Kathy was born on January 6, 1952, the only daughter of the late Thomas & Frances (Carey) Griffin of Meriden & Old Saybrook. Kathy attended Mercy High School in Middletown and graduated from Stonehill College in North Easton, MA with a degree in mathematics in 1974. In 1977 Kathy met Julien Brookson while vacationing on the island of St. Maarten/St. Martin and the two married and settled in Old Saybrook and welcomed their daughter the following year. Kathy spent the majority of her professional life in banking. She was employed by CBT, Fleet, New Haven Savings, New Alliance and lastly from Liberty Bank retiring in 2015. Kathy had previously served as President of the Exchange Club and was a faithful parishioner of St. John Church, both in Old Saybrook. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling especially to visit relatives in the Caribbean, shopping and the beach. Kathy is survived by her loving husband Julien, her daughter Melissa Brookson both of Old Saybrook, her brothers Carey (Cheryl) of Wallingford, Daniel (Linda) and Patrick all of Florida, brothers and sisters-in-law in St. Maarten/ St. Martin and Curacao and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and nurses who treated Kathy, specifically Dr. Susanna Hong and Dr. Christa Whitman, the staff at Middlesex Hospital and Ct Hospice in Branford. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John Church, 161 Main St., Old Saybrook on Tuesday, January 24th at 11am. Burial will be private.
