Obituary of Elynor Fay Wiggers Snow
Elynor (Ellie) Fay Wiggers Snow, of Old Saybrook, died on February 21, 2017, at Gladeview Health Care in Old Saybrook surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 30, 1927, in Salem. Ohio, the daughter of Albert & Maria Teresa (Piccariella) Wiggers. Ellie moved to East Hartford in 1929 and graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1945. After graduation, Ellie and her friend Lillian Walsh moved to New York City and worked in night clubs including the Copa Cabana and Lou Walters Latin Quarters on Broadway. After moving back to Hartford, Ellie went to work at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in the Engineering Department where she met Kingmon Snow in 1952. They were married August 8, 1953. Mrs. Snow was a pioneer in the local real estate field. She was one of the first female Realtors in the area and was the Broker/Owner of Snow Real Estate. As a business woman on the forefront, she developed neighborhoods in Old Saybrook including Blueberry Lane, Muffin Place, along with Sharon Lane, Gregory Place and Dwayne Road that were named after her children. She was a leading force in the creation of the Old Saybrook Shopping Center development bringing Stop & Shop, W.T. Grants and Sage Allen to Old Saybrook. Elynor was very active in many local organizations holding positions as Past president of the Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce, and a founding member of the Lioness Club, Past President of the Board of Realtors, Past President and Board of Director member of the Connecticut Association of Realtors. In 1963, Ellie was one of the first women to get a mortgage with Middletown Saving Bank without the signature of a husband. Ellie received many awards over the years including Realtor of the Year. She also coached the Pink Panthers Softball Team. Mrs. Snow is predeceased by her husband Kingmon B. Snow and her sister Mary Jane Mearman of Florida. She is survived by her children Sharon Kennedy and her husband Kevin of Old Saybrook, David Snow and his wife Lisa of Blythewood, SC, and Gregory Snow and his wife Melina Lacy of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren Valarie, Daniel, and Ryan Kennedy, Krystal Snow-Bourne, Mark, Amanda, Sabrina, and Michael Snow; great granddaughter Miranda Lyn Bourne; sister Shirley Massa; and sister-in-laws Sandy Snow of Westerly RI and Karen Brown and her husband Parke of Potomac, Maryland along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Memorial Day Weekend on Friday May 26th from 5:00PM to7:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, Centerbrook, CT. A memorial service will be held on Sunday May 28th at 2:00 pm. at the First Congregational Church of Westbrook, 1166 Boston Post Rd., Westbrook, CT.
