Obituary of Gladyce Irma Lawrence

Gladyce Irma (Colodny) Lawrence, 87, passed away March 3, 2017 after a short and unexpected illness. She was born on April 21, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY to Marie and Alexander Colodny. After graduation from Upsala College, she worked as a social worker before starting her family. As her children grew, she opened a health food store, The Jolly Sprout. She sold newspaper advertising for more than 20 years before retiring at age 76. After retirement, she became very involved with volunteer work: AAUW, CT River Museum, Florence Griswold Museum, The Kate and the Ivoryton Playhouse. She was also fortunate to have been surrounded by a wonderful circle of friends. She was predeceased by her parents and her grandson Alex Lawrence. She is survived by her 3 children: Robin and her husband Wells, Scott and his wife Debbie, Bruce and his wife Chantal, 5 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter. Calling hours will be held at Robinson Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St. Centerbrook on April 7th from 5-7pm.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the CT River Museum, Essex, CT or the Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme, CT.
