Just now learned of Paul's passing from cancer at age 55 and shed a tear. I'm 55 and was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and Paul is too young to be gone. I'm two years younger than Paul and had the great honor of being his teammate on a great Middletown Post 75 baseball team made up of the best baseball players in CT . We were 33 & 3 the summer of 1980 and several of our guys were drafted. Several more could have been including Paul. Paul was a great catcher and a better person. A gifted athlete with an infectious personality. During high school he was a rival and a great all around athlete that excelled at every sport he played. I extend my deepest sympathy to his mom and dad, family and close friends.

Paul was one of the best athletes and nicest guys during our time at Valley. Someone others really looked up to, he was the best among us. His gracious spirit resonates loudly in these posts. So, so sorry for you loss.

Pauly, I am so very glad that you were in my life. I love you and consider you to be a second father figure. You were always there for me, no matter what and I thought that was so special. I will forever cherish our jersey shore vacations and fun times by the pool, you always had such a contagious smile on your face. I also admired how caring/giving you were; every time I came over your house you always wanted to make sure I was having a good time and you would give me the shirt off your back. I also want to thank you for being so loving to my mom and always being there for her through the good and the bad. It deeply saddens me that you are gone but I know that I will see you again. I will always remember you and the memories we have shared and I will always love you. See ya later alligator :)

So many memories of Paul, his athleticism and beautiful family, I'm so grateful that I was able to spend time as a child with all of you! You were so kind to me, Paul had such a gift, we all saw it and were in ahh of it, one of my many favorite moments of him, starting guard as a freshman, hitting jump shots, he was and will always be, remembered dearly!

Growing up, Paul was one of my very best friends. From the first time I played against him on a basketball court in 6th grade and then as a teammate from junior high through high school, he was the best athlete I had ever known and had the honor to play with. I'll miss him terribly and extend my most sincere condolences to his family.

Delores and Dick, I know how much you loved Paul, as did many, including me. The only solace we can take now is that Paul is at peace and in a better place. I'm cherishing the memories of a happy Paul playing pool and drinking beer. Please let me know if there's anything I can do to ease your burden.

Dear Budney Family,
It was not his handsome face, or his legendary athletic talent that made him special. It was how he treated people throughout his entire life. Over the years I was often on the receiving end of Paul's warmth and kindness and watched in amazement (from the time we were just kids), how someone who had so many reasons to put himself at the center of things, instead displayed such empathy and humility. He was a special one, alright. He must have had a special set of parents and sister. Thoughts and prayers...

Paul was my manager at Crown Uniform. He taught me alot about sales and how to communicate effectively with propects. He was an early morning person, (which i am not) and got more things accomplished before 8am then most of us do in a full day. He was a hard worker and loved his coffee. That was my ace in the whole if he was having a bad day. He was a private person, but you could tell that he loved his family, girl friend and friends very much. We both loved sports and sharing stories about our past successes on the baseball fields and basketball courts. He helped me to grow as a person and become a better sales rep. My condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed. RIP my friend.

Dear Mr and Mrs Budney and Diane:
I am so saddened to read about Paul's passing on a Facebook post--I had no idea that he was battling pancreatic cancer. I want you to know that as kids we all wanted to be Paul--he was gifted with good lucks, athletic talent, and inner kindness. He was a good person, and you were such a kind-hearted family--all those picnics on Melody Lane--you made us feel loved and welcomed and part of your family. His life, his kindness, your kindness, it made an impact on us all.
