Obituary of Catherine W. Wind

Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man," said the poet Samuel Walter Foss. These words describe the life of Catherine Wineski Wind who left us on April 28, 2017 just 19 days after celebrating her 100th birthday. Friends and family gathered with Nanny Wind at Essex Meadows on April 9th to celebrate the life of this amazing lady. Her home at 76 Main Street in Ivoryton offered a ready welcome to one and all. Whether stopping by for a cup of tea, gathering on the front sidewalk to watch a parade or fishing in the brook, Nanny Wind was always ready with a smile, a story and a loving welcome. A lifelong communicant at Our Lady of Sorrows, Catherine worked for many years at Schellens True Corporation in the Quality Control Department where her insistence on meticulously engineered products was legend. Many a turbine blade was sent back because her eagle eye caught a burr or a nick. She joins her husband, Edward Kelsey Wind, and her two sons, Edward Barry Wind and Gary Lee Wind, in eternity along with her sisters Penny, Edith and Stella. Here she is already missed by her granddaughter Amanda Wind O'Donnell and Amanda's husband, Colin along with great-grandchildren Henry O'Donnell and Lily O'Donnell of Brooklyn, NY; grandson Justin Wind and his partner, Andrew Young of San Jose, California. She also leaves daughter-in-law Lois Wind of Aikin, SC, daughter-in-law Cathy Wind of Old Saybrook, step-grandchildren Tracey Bombaci of Newbury, NH and Jim Bombaci of East Haven, CT and step-great-grandchildren Grace, Melanie, and James. The family would also like to thank Sarah Carnabucci for her loving support and long friendship. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows in Essex this Friday, May 5th at 11AM.
