Obituary of George Lawrence Moore Rambeau
George Lawrence Moore Rambeau, loving husband of Nancy McCarthy Rambeau, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 19th, 1937, the first son and second child of Lawrence Decatur Rambeau and Elizabeth Spencer Sheetz Rambeau. He died at home on 16 May 2017 after an illness of some length in Ivoryton, Connecticut where he had lived for many years. Mr. Rambeau attended the public schools in Northville, Michigan, and graduated from Northville High School in June, 1954. He attended Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Upon leaving the University, he was employed at Dun and Bradstreet, and then at Sylvania Electric, which became GTE. During this time, he served in the US Army Reserves. He subsequently became a wine merchant, beginning in California, and moving to Connecticut where he worked for several vintners in the latter part of his career. In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by; a son, Greig (Sandra) Rambo; a daughter Carrie (Harry) Johns; a sister, Catharine Rambeau; a brother, James (Christina) Rambeau; and a grandson, Austin Rambo; a brother-in-law, Kevin (Susan) McCarthy and several nephews and nieces. As a volunteer for the Essex Land Trust, he was delighted to bear the title, Steward of the Great Meadow. Throughout his life, he was a kind, witty, and cheerful man who unfailingly made a room warmer with his presence. He made everyone feel the good of the world.
