Obituary of Delores E. Holland
Delores E. "Dodie" Holland, formerly of Torrington and Essex, died peacefully at Aaron Manor in Chester of natural causes on May 24, 2017. Delores graduated from Torrington High School and was an avid tennis player earning many trophies. As a young women she worked at Veribest, a well known ice cream parlor owned by her father, located at 1 Main Street, Torrington, until it was swept away by the flood of 1955. Delores spent many years as a well known Regional Artist and was commissioned to do several portraits of prominent judges. Those portraits hang in the Connecticut State Capital. She also taught art classes at The Lyme Art Academy. Delores is survived by her son Todd and his wife Robin, her granddaughters, Cassandra and Miranda, all of Chester. She is also survived by her former husband, Donald Holland of Essex, her sisters, Katherine Diab and Virginia Curti, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Ida and Said Mubarek, her brother, Edmund (Patricia) of Torrington, and sister, Gloria Goodhouse of Tennessee. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00AM at Aaron Manor, (Exit #6 off Route 9 in Chester). In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Dodie's name may be sent to Aaron Manor Sunshine Fund, 3 South Wig Hill Road, Chester, CT 06412.
