Obituary of Richard Joseph Cohen

Richard Joseph "Richie" Cohen, 57, of Higganum passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday evening, June 29, 2017 at Hartford Hospital in Hartford. He was the beloved husband of Karin (Wright) Cohen. Richie and Karin were married in Glastonbury, on February 18, 1995. He was born in Hartford on May 4, 1960. He was a member of the Class of 1978 at William H. Hall High School in West Hartford. He was a P1 licensed plumber and was a former member and Secretary of the Local # 76 Plumbers Union. Richie owned and operated C&C Mechanical in Higganum from 1990 to 2010 and for the past seven years was employed by Central Mechanical in Cromwell. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #957 in New Britain. He had been a resident of Higganum for the last twenty-two years. Richie was a fantastic cook who loved to prepare a wonderful meal for his family and many friends. Known as being a great entertainer he was always welcoming and loving to all. Everyone was family to him. He loved a good whiskey and great music. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and devoted friend. He truly had a heart of gold. Beside his beloved wife Karin he leaves his loving sons, Joshua and his wife Alyssa of East Hampton, and Daniel and his fiancée Jackie Ivory of Portland, his granddaughters, Ryley and Hayley, sisters, Michelle Weston and her husband Glyn, of McKinney, Texas and Lisa Cohen and her significant other, Bill Torza of Cromwell. He also leaves his aunt, Marlene Glaserman of Oregon, his six brothers and sisters in laws and seventeen nieces and nephews. Richie was predeceased by his mother Faythe Glaserman and his grandparents, Carl and Sophie Glaserman. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. His funeral service will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 10:00AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church 109 Main Street in Centerbrook. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Richie's name may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 112, Centerbrook, CT 06409.
