Obituary of Elizabeth Mae Johns

Elizabeth Mae (Miller) Johns "Betty", 79, of Essex, passed away on August 15, 2017 surrounded by her husband of 60 years and her 5 children after losing her brief but aggressive battle with cancer. Betty was born in New London, CT on May 29, 1938 and raised in Old Lyme. She was married to John Johns on July 27, 1957. Betty worked as an aid at the Essex Rest Home and as a sales associate at The Red Balloon before finding the work that she enjoyed the most, a para-professional at Essex Elementary School. In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by her 5 children Bonnie Sharky (Steve Sharky) of Leominster, MA; John D. Johns of Essex; Karen Thomas (John Sutton) of Lyme; Paul Johns (Linda Steindl) of Essex; Anne Russell (Chris Russell) of Dunedin, FL; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Betty is preceded in death by her parents James and Dorothy Miller of Old Lyme; her sister Marion Manee of Ivoryton; and her niece Terri Manee of Ivoryton. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Monday, August 21st from 5:00 PM to7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Joseph's Church, 48 Middlesex Avenue in Chester on Tuesday, August 22nd at 11:00 AM followed by a reception at the Saint Joseph's Parish Center.
