Betty Finnigan / Cape Breton, Nova Scotia posted a condolence

Essex has lost its champion. Johnny was a true family man and community leader. He was always friendly and approachable. All of us (the Finnigan family) knew and loved Johnny and Betty. They were a beautiful couple . There is great comfort in knowing that they were strengthened throughout life by their dedication to the faith.
May their memory be eternal.

I don't think you're ever ready to lose a parent, but to lose them both in such a short time makes my heart ache for you all the more. May your warm and loving memories of both of your parents keep their spirits alive in your hearts as you navigate your grief. Your whole family has been and will continue to be in my prayers.

To all in the Johns family, my deepest sympathies to all of you. What a very difficult time; to lose your Mom and then so suddenly lose your Dad. May they keep each other company in heaven.
Love to you,
Linda Trawick

Our heartfelt and deepest condolences go out to the entire Johns family. We cannot possibly know the depths of the sorrow you are feeling right now, having lost two beautiful people from your family in such a short period. I will always remember John as the gentle person he was, always quick with that shy smile, a truly good person, someone you were always glad you knew. The void in your lives must seem cavernous right now. Hopefully, with time, that void will begin to fill with all the wonderful memories you've stored in your hearts over the years and with the incredible love that your parents left for you. The bond they shared was so strong that John couldn't resist its pull when Betty left him. In the difficult days ahead, try to take some comfort in the fact that they are together again, caring for each other for all eternity. They have been welcomed into the Heavenly family by all of our loved ones who preceded them. Keep them close in your hearts and they will never leave you.
While we will not be able to celebrate John's life with you on Monday, please know that we will be with you in spirit and keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers.

I always looked forward to passing by Mr. Johns' house with the hopes I would see him sitting on his front porch enjoying the outdoors. I already miss his friendly wave and smile.
