Obituary of Stephen Byrne Spires
Stephen Byrne Spires, 76 of Ivoryton passed away on Saturday evening, September 23, 2017 at the Gladeview Healthcare Center in Old Saybrook. Steve was married almost 50 years to the love of his life Suzanne (Marchetti) Spires. He was born on December 1, 1940 in Berks County, Pennsylvania the son of Stephen T. and Bernice (Byrne) Spires. After graduating from Youngstown University in Ohio he moved to New York City and pursued a career in advertising. Steve and Suzanne were married on December 2, 1967 and years later moved to Chester. Steve was Vice-President Director of Marketing for CBT Bank and the Business Manager for the Regional District 4 school system. He was dedicated to the Town of Chester serving the community as Chairman of the Board of Finance for over 20 years and was the town's first Police Commissioner. Steve served twice as the President of the Chester Rotary Club and was a former chairman of the Rotary Club's Annual Road Race and Lobster Fest. Besides his beloved wife Suzanne he leaves his loving daughters, Anne Spires and Kevin Justice, of Bernardston, Massachusetts, and Elizabeth and Tom Pester, of Deep River, and the newest love of his life, his 18 month old granddaughter Eloise. He also leaves his sister, Marcia Spires of New York City. We thank our wonderful and loving friends, Dolores & Ted May, Joan Bleau, Jeannine & Ken Everitt, Kathy Alsop, Bettie Perreault, Stephanie Jordan, Cheri Marshall, Suzanne Ko, Mike & Margie McAleer, Bernadette & John Abosso, Melinda & Jim Brainerd, Rob Van Ostenbridge, Ashley Pye, and Lawrence and Nancy Marchetti. Without their loving support throughout the four years of Parkinson and Alzheimer's disease his life wouldn't have had as much enjoyment. Our gratitude and love to all the staff at Gladeview for their care and support. A private celebration of Steve's life will be held at a later date.
