Obituary of Marian Kendall Lilly

Marian Kendall "Betty" Lilly passed away peacefully in her apartment at Chester Village West in Chester on January 11, 2018. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Roger M. Lilly in 2005. Betty was born in Ft. Lewis, Washington on February 25, 1920 into a US Army family and never left the Army. With her physician father, she lived in many parts of the U.S and also spent three years in the Philippines as a teenager. She married Roger Lilly in 1942 and shared his long career in service to our country. In addition to many state side locations, they had two tours of duty in Germany; one just after Roger returned from combat; and a second from 1960 – 1963, during the Cold War. The last assignment was with NORAD in Colorado Springs, CO, where they retired and spent 30 years. They moved to Chester in 2002 to be close to family. Betty enjoyed many interests and hobbies. She was an accomplished amateur artist, and avid horsewoman. She served as a member of the alter guild at many Episcopal Churches over the years. She loved to travel and took every opportunity to see the world. Betty leaves her only child, Marian Bairstow and her husband Jim; grandsons Roger Bairstow and his wife Suzanne Broetje of Burbank, WA; David Bairstow and his wife Rebecca Knight of Boston, Andrew Bairstow and his wife Megan Spielman Bairstow of Dover, NH, and granddaughter Katherine Boehm and her husband Ben of Walla Walla, WA. Her life was enriched by a total of nine great grandchildren. There will be a memorial service at West Point, NY, sometime in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Chester Village West Foundation, 317 West Main Street, Chester, CT 06412.
