Obituary of David Francis Puffer

David Francis Puffer, age 70, a longtime resident of Deep River passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. He was born in Hartford on June 27, 1943 the son of the late Robert E. and Florence (Holmes) Puffer. David was a graduate of Valley Regional High School in 1961 and was employed by the United States Postal Service for 16 years as a letter carrier. He also worked at both the Chester and Deep River Elementary Schools. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #61 in Deep River. He was lover of all the local fairs especially his hometown fair in Chester. He was an avid fine woodworker. David will be remembered as one of Santa's grandest elves, traveling all over the country, most recently providing festivity for over twenty years at the Crystal Mall in Waterford. David is survived by his sister, Shirley Lane of Deep River, his sister-in-law, Janet Puffer Mosher and her husband Doug of Westbrook, his niece, Lori (Puffer) Lawrie, and her husband Jeff of Chester and their children, Josh, Hannah, and Noah. He also leaves his nephew, Bill Puffer and his wife Ruth of Deep River. He was predeceased by his brother Robert W. Puffer. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 3:00PM at Kirtland Commons, 60 Main Street in Deep River. Interment services in the Fountain Hill Cemetery in Deep River will be privately held by his family.
