Anne Garrigues Wigton Hall, 97, of Essex, CT passed away peacefully on March 6, 2018 at the Essex Meadows Health Center where she was a resident. She was one month shy of her 98th birthday. Best known for her always cheerful, friendly, optimistic, and engaging personality, Anne's irrepressible vitality and contagious joie de vivre will be missed by all. Her long, full, and very active life ended with all of the grace and dignity which she constantly exuded and for which everyone knew her so well. Born on April 14, 1920 in Plainfield, NJ to the late Charles Benson Wigton and Anna Maxwell Garrigues Wigton, Anne lived in Plainfield for nearly 60 years before moving to Essex, CT. She was the loving wife for 66 years of Frederic L. Hall ("Ted"), whom she married in July, 1944 while he was on a short leave from the U.S. Navy in between Atlantic and Pacific tours of duty during World War II. Anne was predeceased by Ted in May, 2010. Anne attended the Hartridge School in Plainfield and graduated from St. Catherine's School in Richmond, VA. In addition to being a wonderful homemaker, avid skier, and tennis player, her many other accomplishments included teaching kindergarten, serving as a nurse's aide, performing volunteer work for the American Red Cross and Junior League, and being a tireless delegate for the Garden Club of America. In addition, she served for many years as a buyer for the gift shop at Muhlenburg Hospital, a 650 bed teaching hospital in Plainfield. Anne was also an accomplished artist of both oil and water colors as well as needlepoint work and she loved tending to her beautiful gardens. Anne and Ted were both long time residents of Point O' Woods, a summer community on Fire Island, NY where they were active volunteers throughout the community. Anne is survived by her two children, a daughter, Susanne Hall Alford and her husband, Bryant, of Vero Beach, FL, and a son, Frederic Wigton Hall and his wife, Sarah, of Wolfeboro, NH, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Anne's two brothers and two sisters all predeceased her. A private interment ceremony for immediate family will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Essex, CT.
