Obituary of Andrea Nord Tankin
Andrea Nord-Tankin, wife of Harry J. Tankin, and mother of Noah N. Tankin died suddenly on March 23, 2018 at her home in Yardley, PA after a long illness. She was born on April 9, 1956 in Essex, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Erling C. and Dorothy R. Nord. She graduated from Valley Regional High School in 1974 and then from The University of Connecticut. She went on to obtain a master's degree at Duke, becoming one of the first Physician's Assistants in the country. Later she also obtained a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Massachusetts. The dual allegiances to UCONN and Duke caused her much angst and self-reflection during basketball season. In school, as in all things, Andrea set and held high standards for herself to the benefit of those who knew her personally and professionally. She was known for her compassionate and caring demeanor. Andrea went on to teach at Arcadia University, instilling the importance of those values in her students, many with whom she remained in touch. Andrea loved knitting, gardening, learning, and watching the birds at her feeders. She was kind, insightful, loyal, and a mentor to many. May her memory inspire us all to invest in the next generation! Besides her husband Harry, Andrea is survived by her son Noah and his fiancée Jennifer Dicksen of Strasburg, Va.; her brother Carl Nord, his wife Anne, and their children Holly and Korey of Killingworth, Conn.; her sister Lisa Zack, her husband Lance of Albany, N.H., and their daughter Elizabeth Hatch and her husband Adam of Hooksett, N.H. A memorial service will be held at Shir Ami in Newtown, PA. on Thursday, March 29 at 6 p.m. An interment service will be held at Riverview Cemetery in Essex, CT., on Saturday, April 7 at 2 p.m. Her family appreciates all the love and support you have sent our way.
