I have so many memories of my "baby " brother Bill and I find his absence in my life very difficult. I saw his struggle to heal and he had much he still wanted to do in this life. He is at least at peace-the suffering over. May God bless and bring peace to all who knew him and miss him. I love you Bill. Your "baby" sister Nancy

RIP Mr. Rutan. races will not be the same. we always looked forward to a visit and help with our Lester MG. his knowledge was wide and advice sound. We treasure the time he took our car up MT. Equinox and said kind words about it (and informed everyone within listening that he had beat our time, which was true!). we will all miss him. tom, doug and KUR4.

I will miss my chats with Bill during the summer months when he would walk Tag across my lower lot on his way to remember his veteran friends and solute the American flag flying from a neighbor's pole.'
Over the last several years at his own admission a friendship developed between us first starting as just an acquaintance. We shared separate histories of the area particularly in his enlightenment pf the land and area development along the river north of Essex center. Knowing of previous owners of my neighbors' houses and its history drew us together in these chats as I was able to share my heritage of dating back to the early settlement of Old Saybrook, but my family migrated to the other side of the river. To true Essex and former Pettipaug Village settlers, I guess my family were outcasts'? Bill didn't think so.
Out of theme, many riverside chats with Bill and Tag one such stands out. Through my wife Pam's totally unrelated and coincidental association with separate Rutan family members, I was given a picture to my cell phone of Bill in his youth standing next to his car, Number 10, that he raced. It was our great tease and mystery as to how I acquired it. It added much fun to last summer's riverside chats.
Pam and I miss him, and his soft manners of expression given to us both.

Bill was such a unique character. He was warm, feisty, funny, extremely talented who didn't suffer fools gladly. We were so privileged to have known him, shared a laugh or two, and especially to have him as a friend. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends.
