Obituary of Raymond Peter Mozzochi
Raymond P. Mozzochi, age 93, a lifelong resident of Deep River passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014. Ray was born in Deep River on July 2, 1921 the son of Louis and Francesca (Opizzi) Mozzochi. He was a heating and plumbing technician having worked for Maus & Son Heating and Plumbing Contractors of East Haddam and Deep River and Ivoryton Oil Companies. In his retirement Ray was a well known school crossing guard in Deep River and he also worked as a security guard. Ray served the Deep River community for over 40 years as a constable and presently continued to serve as a special constable for the community. He had a very important role in the formation of police service in Deep River. Ray proudly served his country from 1940 to 1946 as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater he was involved in both the Gilbert Islands and Okinawa Shima campaigns. He was a Life Member and Past Commander of the Ibell-Jacobson-Smith American Legion Post #61 and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Deep River. Ray is survived by his daughter, Linda Elliott and her husband Mark of Lebanon, his grandchildren, Peter and Katie Elliott, Brenda Izaguirre and her husband Jomer, and George DeCoster and his wife Shana. He also leaves his nine great-grandchildren, his sister, Gloria Niebler, of Deep River, his brother, Paul Mozzochi and his wife Kathy, also of Deep River, and his loving friend, Jane A. Hall of Old Saybrook. Ray was predeceased by his beloved wife Alice who predeceased him in 1999, his daughter, Patricia DeCoster, his sister, Mary Trabucci and brothers, Atillo, Albert, Gary, George and Savino. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook on Friday, July 11th from 10:00AM-11:00AM. Ray's funeral service will follow at 11:00AM. Interment with the Rendering of Full Military Honors will follow his service in the Fountain Hill Cemetery, High Street in Deep River. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Ray's name may be made to the Ibell-Jacobson-Smith American Legion Post #61, P.O. Box 114, Deep River, CT 06417.
