Obituary of Sigmund F. Wyzykowski
Sigmund F. Wyzykowski, Jr., 87 of Higganum passed away on Wednesday morning, July 9, 2014 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. "Sig"was the beloved husband of the late Gladys (Rupert) Wyzykowski who predeceased him on August 8, 2004. He had resided for the past ten years in Higganum and had been a former resident of Niantic. Sig was born in Bayside, New York on March 11, 1927 the son of Sigmund F. and Stella (Chikowsky) Wyzykowski. He was a proud veteran of both the United States Navy and Army. Sig served his country during World War II in the Navy and during the Korean War in the Army. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 6726 in Essex and the Turner-Tinker Post #128 of the American Legion in Niantic. Sig was an artist who enjoyed painting. He also loved to be near the water and had many fond memories of boating with his brothers, and he also enjoyed traveling. Sig was employed by the State of Connecticut for over twenty-five years and retired as the Chief of Police at the Veterans Home and Hospital in Rocky Hill. He is survived by his children, Mark Wyzykowski, of Old Saybrook, Steven Wyzykowski, of Higganum, Andrew Wyzykowski, of Haddam, Susan Bennett, of Moosup, and Debra Misiaszek, of Canterbury, his 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, his brothers, David Wyzykowski, of Westbrook and Robert Wyzykowski, of Spring Hill, Florida. Besides his wife Gladys he was predeceased by his infant daughter Julie, his grandson, Mark Andrew Wyzykowski and his sister, Constance Roos. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 9:00AM to 10:00AM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. A funeral service will follow at 10:00AM. Interment services with the rendering of Full Military Honors will be conducted following the service in the State of Connecticut Veterans Cemetery in Middletown.
