Obituary of Rita A Samuels

Rita A. (Palmer) Samuels, 95, of Deep River, died at her home on March 23, 2011. Beloved wife of the late Harold M. Samuels. She was born in Middletown , the daughter of the late Samuel and Sadie (Poliner) Powers. Rita became a prominent member of the political life in Deep River; serving on both the Finance and Sewer Commission. She was CT State President of the PTA in the 1960’s and the first female President of a synagogue in the United States (Jewish Community Center in Deep River1940-41, she was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek and was a founder of the Middlesex Chapter of Hadassah. She is survived by her daughter Jane Samuels of Deep River, Caroline Samuels of Bethesda, MD, a son Palmer Morrel-Samuels of Chelsea, MI, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband Rita was predeceased by her daughter Sayere Samuels and her siblings Kalman Palmer, Joy Kram and Bud Palmer. Funeral Services will be held TODAY at Temple Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek in Chester at 1pm. Interment will follow at Fountain Hill Cemetery, Shiva will be observed at 24 Elm St. Deep River on Saturday, Sunday & Monday from 7:30pm- 8:30 pm.
